This week’s winning essay,Joshuapundit’s Greece’s New Trojan Horse, And What It Means To America are my thoughts on what’s really behind the current financial crisis, the underlying reasons for it and why Americans ought to be paying attention. Here’s a slice:

The Greeks, faced with what amounted to an ultimatum from the EU rejected further austerity measures and decided yesterday not to accept the EU’s proposal by a whopping 61%. It’s not hard to see why.

Greece’s debt now exceeds 177% of their GDP.They owe massive amounts to their bondholders and other creditors, whom already took a huge haircut for the last bailout. In order to pay the next payment due on what they already owe, they needed yet another bailout and what Greek’s left wing PM Alexis Tsipras called ‘debt relief.’ That essentially means they want EU nations like Germany to pay off part of Greece’s debt.

In response,the EU, led by German Chancellor Angela Merkel offered a take or leave it proposal that would have given Greece enough money to pay off the IMF, which will then give them the money to pay the European Central Bank, and so on and so on. But the EU also demanded severe austerity measures to do it, including spending cuts, reforms to Greece’s expansive pension and social welfare system and ‘labor reform’, which means more cuts in civil service jobs. That’s what the EU wanted in exchange for yet another 240 billion euro ($262.7 billion) bailout.

To add an additional bit of arm twisting,the European Central Bank (ECB)took the step of cutting of all cash to Greece’s banks, which are dependent on it since they were connected to the system. The banks are now closed, with ATM deposits limited to 60 euros (about $66) per day if you can find an ATM that still dispenses cash. Greeks are reverting to barter to purchase food and ordinary household supplies, and Greek banks are forecast to run out of money totally sometime this week.

What’s really going on is sheer politics. Greece’s debt is never going to be paid off, ever. And the EU knows it. What they’re really after is damage control, AKA a modicum of control over Greek fiscal policy to limit the fallout.

The EU is in something of a bind. If they cut Greece some slack, other countries with major debt problems like Portugal, Spain and Italy who received bail outs but are making their payments and coping with austerity are very likely to reconsider making their own payments. After all, if Greece can get away with this, why not them? And there’s also the factor of someone like Merkel having to face angry German taxpayers if Greece slides away from its obligation and they have to pick up the slack once more.

By the same token, if Greece is forced out of the Eurozone, it sets a precedent for others to do the same thing and have the whole over-leveraged structure topple over.

So the result of this Sunday’s referendum means there’s going to be one of two outcomes.

Either the EU will cave in and make a better offer, which is exactly the argument PM Alexis Tsipras used to urge Greeks to vote no. Or the EU will decide it’s had enough of Greece, and Greece exits the euro.

From Greece’s point of view, either way works, really.Again, here’s why, in a nutshell:

Whatever happens, Greece is in for some pain, but I think they’d probably be better off simply dropping the Euro, which is exactly what I wrote in 2012.

Dumping the euro and adopting the Greek drachma, which would of course devalue naturally would have several salutary effects once the initial chaos subsided. Greece would no longer be locked into a fixed exchange rate, which would make its exports more affordable and undoubtedly create a boom in tourism, one of Greece’s chief industries. Plus, let’s face it, no one is going to lend the Greeks money or buy their debt for some time to come at anything like decent rates, so they might be better off just wiping the slate clean with a bankruptcy and starting fresh.

Not only that, but if the Greeks are smart, they will institute their own form of austerity reforms. The costs of government is nearly half of Greece’s GDP right now (49.3%). A great deal of money could be saved simply be revaluing civil service salaries and pensions in drachmas instead of euros at a government set exchange rate that could be far less than the actual market rate.

There’s an interesting lesson to be learned here, with an example from the other side of the Mediterranean.

Yep I got to break a tie between two great pieces I singled out as Watcher’s picks from some writers I really like even if I don’t always agree with them 100%.

Robert And Ben’s piece in the Federalist made a cogent point a lot of people need to hear right now, that while the culture war will continue to be waged by the prog Fascists and we need to be prepared for it, tyrants always overreach and that we need to be prepared to take advantage of that too.

La Glick’s essay chronicles the hard facts of the Obama Administration’s caving in to virtually all of Iran’s demands while ‘negotiating’ an agreement that doesn’t actually exist yet after a year and a half of talks, and contains little of anything we were told it would contain back in November 2013. Meanwhile, it’s provided the Iranian regime with two things it really needed…time to work on their nuclear weapons project and billions in cash to keep them afloat.

Actually, I recommend you read both pieces carefully, but I went for Caroline Glick’s piece because I think the hard info in it really needs to be out there more, particularly given the way Secretary Kerry and our Dear Leader will try to spin things whether it falls apart with a piece of paper to wave ala’ Munich 1938 or not.

The Official Blog Interview with the Libertarian candidate for the 10th State Senate District: Carl Loser

Carl Loser is one of the bravest persons I know.  He is running for office.  And he does not try to hide his last name or try to get people to pronounce it “Looser” or “Lusay”, no, it’s “Loser” and he embraces it.

Carl is the Libertarian candidate for the Tenth Senate District of Virginia.  I spoke with him and his campaign manager, Corey M. Fauconier (full disclosure:  Corey is a good friend and fellow brother in Christ and fellow Toastmaster, too!) at separate places.

Vital statistics:  Carl is single (I warned him:  Women might be after him while he runs for office – see my story here!) and no kids.  He’s 24 or so.

He got involved in the LP because of Robert Sarvis running for governor in 2013.  He first ran for Powhatan Clerk of the Court and finished six out of eight!

Carl wants to do three things if elected:

  1. End prohibition.  For most Libertarians, that means drugs.  Carl is no exception.  (No he does not use the drugs!)  He would start with marijuana and work to other drugs.  But Carl is also concerned about prostitution and gambling.  Making prostitution legal could cut the market out from under the terrible trafficking we see today.  Gambling is virtually illegal in Virginia except for small states poker, charitable gaming and the state lottery.  Carl would privatize the lottery (I agree there) and also legalize gambling, too.  He wants most private contracts (other than obviously illegal like hit man contracts) fully enforced.

  2. Economic Opportunity:  Loser wants to enhance economic development through lower taxes, less waste in government, vocational education (He would get rid of the compulsory education law), abolish the Certificate of Public Need required for many expansions of medical facilities, Carl would also abolish ABC and allow private sales of liquor instead.

3.  Equal Treatment under law:  Loser is very concerned about how politicians exempt themselves from so many laws like Obamacare.  There is also a scandalous system called Land Use that hobbles counties – 8% of the land in Powhatan is under Land Use.  That causes 92% to subsidize the 8%.  Local businesses pay more in taxes but get less benefits than huge crony capitalists.  Carl is opposed to such things as public subsidies of baseball stadiums.

I think Carl is the real deal and is trying out new ideas, too.  Still developing the things he wants to speak of,  Fauconier is working on a hip-hop song or series of songs for the campaign and the ideals of the LP.  I told Corey that has potential to be a major impact on LP campaigns throughout the nation.  Here is a picture of LP National Chairman Nicholas Sarwark doing the “Loser for Liberty” sign – a left hand on the forehead – that is the trademark of the campaign.

Of course any independent candidate has a uphill battle.  But Carl Loser hopes to make an impact and maybe even win, too!

I had to ask:  How is your last name playing on the trail?  Carl Loser’s name has helped him get all sorts of publicity – mostly free – not just in the district but around the country, too!

The song explains the current state of government is poor and goes into platform issues that the Libertarian Party deems important. Fauconier says, “I came to be introduced to the Libertarian Party when Robert Sarvis and James Carr came to participate in the Candidates Forum sponsored by the Richmond Crusade for Voters back in November 2014 at Virginia Union University. African Americans are still fighting freedom. Why not try another party. It is my personal opinion that neither the Democratic or Republican parties are working in our best interests. Major party politicians always raise hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign monies. This does not mean that they are the leadership that we need, it just means that they have access to a great deal of money. Hip Hop is a cultural method of expression. I just wanted to express my support for a party which wants change in our community. I hope that more African Americans seriously consider the Libertarian Party”

The track was recorded by Jonathan “Skunk” Scott of MSB804LLC Studios in Manchester. On June 15, 2015 the video in support of “Nice: Libertarian Theme” was filmed on location in Richmond, Virginia by Reid Schiff of Virginia Beach. Schiff recently graduated from J Sargent Reynolds and is looking to continue his studies at Virginia Commonwealth University in the fall.
Loser explains. “The two established parties feel threatened by third-party candidates who more directly represent the citizen’s interests.“Government is the result of where our community is today. It has problems and it is time to face them. I can only do so much to help while I am not in office. When I am elected, I will handle our problems more efficiently.”

Our Weasel Of The Week!!

Yes, once again, It’s time to present this week’s statuette of shame, The Golden Weasel!!

Every Tuesday, the Council nominates some of the slimiest, most despicable characters in public life for some deed of evil, cowardice or corruption they’ve performed. Then we vote to single out one particular Weasel for special mention, to whom we award the statuette of shame, our special, 100% plastic Golden Weasel. This week’s nominees were all particularly slimy and despicable, but the votes are in and we have our winner…the envelope please…

Former Actor, Dirt Highway Explorer, Professional Victim And Racist George Takai!!

The Noisy Room : My nomination this week goes to raving moonbat, George Takei, who frankly should have stayed in space, his last frontier.  Uber Leftist actor and activist George Takei, known for his role as Hikaru Sulu in “Star Trek,” said that he and his husband are “overjoyed” by the Supreme Court’s legalization of same-sex marriage. But his shocking comments about conservative Justice Clarence Thomas were just over the rainbow on this one:

“He is a clown in blackface sitting on the Supreme Court. He gets me that angry,” Takei said, visibly flustered as he railed against the African American justice. ”For him to say slaves had dignity … I mean, doesn’t he know slaves were chained? That they were whipped on the back?”

Takei shows his idiocy in all its glory here. He was railing against Thomas’ dissent on the gay marriage ruling:

“Human dignity has long been understood in this country to be innate. When the Framers proclaimed in the Declaration of Independence that ‘all men are created equal’ and ‘endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights,’ they referred to a vision of mankind in which all humans are created in the image of God and therefore of inherent worth. That vision is the foundation upon which this Nation was built.
The corollary of that principle is that human dignity cannot be taken away by the government. Slaves did not lose their dignity (any more than they lost their humanity) because the government allowed them to be enslaved. Those held in internment camps did not lose their dignity because the government confined them. And those denied governmental benefits certainly do not lose their dignity because the government denies them those benefits. The government cannot bestow dignity, and it cannot take it away.”

Thomas, who is unarguably a brilliant litigator and a great man, made a compelling dissent on the ruling. It was epic. Takei’s comment were just profoundly biased and stupid. He called Thomas an “embarrassment” who doesn’t deserve to serve on the Supreme Court, citing in a separate op-ed his own experience living in an internment camp as a child. He would have done better to actually study constitutional law and parse his words more judiciously rather than coming unglued in a Liberal frenzy of incoherence and uninformed lunacy. I agree with one young black conservative woman out there who did a video after the Supreme Court ruling in answer to racist Liberals: “It takes a certain kind of racist to decide that black people can’t have their own opinion.” For being an unconstitutional racist and bigot, Takei has earned a Golden Weasel. Damn it, Jim! He’s earned it!!

Puma By Design :One of actor and member of the gay gestapo, George Takei’s pink jackboots ended up in his mouth after missing the throat of Supreme Court Justice, Clarence Thomas, last week when Takei went on a racist rant against Thomas for his dissenting opinion in the Supreme Court ruling on Obergefell v. Hodges legalizing same sex marriage in all fifty states.

GEORGE TAKEI: “He is a clown in blackface sitting on the Supreme Court. He gets me that angry. He doesn’t belong there. And for him to say, slaves have dignity. I mean, doesn’t he know that slaves were in chains? That they were whipped on the back. If he saw the movie 12 Years a Slave, you know, they were raped. And he says they had dignity as slaves or – My parents lost everything that they worked for, in the middle of their lives, in their 30s. His business, my father’s business, our home, our freedom and we’re supposed to call that dignified? Marched out of our homes at gun point. I mean, this man does not belong on the Supreme Court. He is an embarrassment. He is a disgrace to America.”

In fact, Takei’s rant was so reprehensible that CNN’s Communist race baiter, Marc Lamont Hill, criticized Takei for his “black face” rant on CNN and Twitter (see below) while making it clear that Hill was in no way standing up for Thomas considered by Hill and other Blacks on the left to be a sellout to his race and the Progressive plantation.

On Friday Takei walked back his remarks by posting an apology on his Facebook page (excerpt below:

I recently was asked by a reporter about Justice Clarence Thomas’s dissent in the marriage equality cases, in which he wrote words that really got under my skin, by suggesting that the government cannot take away human dignity through slavery, or though internment. In my mind that suggested that this meant he felt the government therefore shouldn’t be held accountable, or should do nothing in the face of gross violations of dignity. When asked by a reporter about the opinion, I was still seething, and I referred to him as a “clown in blackface” to suggest that he had abdicated and abandoned his heritage. This was not intended to be racist, but rather to evoke a history of racism in the theatrical arts. While I continue to vehemently disagree with Justice Thomas, the words I chose, said in the heat of anger, were not carefully considered.

Takei’s apology is nothing more than quintessential dribble typical of Marxist antagonists whose jackboot of bigotry and intolerance ends up in their mouths instead of on the neck of their targets.

County Clerks refuse to submit to SCOTUS’ Marriage Hijack

The five justices of the Supreme Court weren’t the only ones with a strong opinion on marriage. And dozens of county clerks are risking everything to prove it. Five days after five justices bulldozed the votes of 50 million people, the Left was wrong to assume everyone would just fall in line. They didn’t count on an army of local officials standing in the wreckage of judicial activism, refusing to budge.

For most of them, it wasn’t a question of if their beliefs would come under attack, but when. Like Jennifer Schoenrock, the wife of a disabled veteran and family breadwinner, they knew the day was coming when they’d have to choose between their convictions and their career. “I want to do the right thing,” Jennifer explained. And that means obeying God’s law — not man’s. After last week, these clerks take seriously the reality that their offices are the new front lines in the battle for religious liberty — and many of them have no intention of going quietly. As far as they’re concerned, a lot of things have changed since Friday, but their First Amendment rights weren’t one of them.

From small counties in Arkansas to busy towns in Texas, there are hundreds of people ready to defend the ground five unelected justices took from voters. The Court may have changed their definition of marriage, Kentucky clerk Chris Cockrell explained, but he isn’t prepared to change his. If that means going to jail, so be it. And according to the state’s ACLU, that’s no empty threat. “Two things can happen if a Kentucky clerk won’t issue a marriage license to a same-sex couple,” warned one law professor. “They can resign or go to jail.”

And don’t think the Left won’t send them. This week, the Kentucky County Clerks Association says it’s been swamped with cries for help from local officials after Governor Steve Beshear (D) ordered government workers to abide by the ruling. Resistance comes with a heavy price: a year in prison for “first-degree official misconduct.” That doesn’t scare Rowan County clerk (and Democrat) Kim Davis. Like a lot of offices, hers shut down the marriage license window altogether — in part because so many of her co-workers object. “What has happened is that five lawyers have imposed their personal view of what the definition of marriage should be on the rest of us. And I, as a Christian, have strong views too. And I know I don’t stand alone.”

Gay activists have started picketing Davis’s office, but she refuses to resign. If the government won’t force her, the ACLU vows to. Which may be why the only people busier than state officials are U.S. attorneys. On both sides, offices have been inundated with requests for legal help. In Texas, Attorney General Ken Paxton has promised to find legal representation for any government official whose beliefs are under attack.

That could be several. Of the 254 counties in Texas, less than half (114) told the AP they were “ready and willing” to issue same-sex marriage licenses. Nationally, nonprofit groups like Alliance Defending Freedom and Liberty Institute are already responding to the marriage whirlwind, flying to the aid of clerks and other officials everywhere.

In some states, the turmoil is even splitting the executive and legislative branches. After Governor Asa Hutchinson (R) insisted that Arkansas comply with the Court, state representatives swore to stand by clerks who refuse. “We affirm our support for Amendment 83 of the Arkansas Constitution as overwhelmingly passed by the people in 2004. We refuse to simply shrug our shoulders and abandon basic principles that have guided our country successfully the past 239 years. We will work with other conservative leaders in our state and across the nation… [to] explore all available options.”

Down in Mississippi, the handful of clerks handing in their resignation letters includes Linda Barnette. After 24 years, the Grenada County Baptist said that when it came to her job or her faith, there was never any real debate. “My final authority is the Bible,” she told Fox News’s Todd Starnes. In her mind, the battle is finally at the church’s door. “Christians are being put to the test,” she said. ‘We’re going to see the true Christians who stand. It’s going to be time to stop talking the talk. It’s going to come down to that.”

One man who knows about walking the walk is Governor Bobby Jindal (R-La.). Fortunately, the Louisiana governor was as prepared for this as he would be for any local disaster and had the foresight to protect religious liberty in law. People in Indiana and Arizona weren’t so lucky. Their governors either watered down their legislation — or refused to pass it altogether — leaving officials without the legal firewall they need to keep the Left at bay. If the ACLU wants to sue Governor Jindal, let them. “The Left likes to pick and choose which liberties they support at any given time,” he jabbed.

The reality is, the First Amendment has been around a lot longer than whatever “rights” the Court invented June 26. And with a growing chorus of conservative leaders, Bobby Jindal is willing to go to the mat to defend them. Your state officials should too. Contact your leaders and ask them to follow in the footsteps of courageous conservatives like Governor Jindal and Ken Paxton. Server Migration to New Host Tonight at Midnight (7/8/2015)

Virginia Right! is moving to a new server tonight. We will still be on a dedicated server but we are moving from HostGator, which has been a good server provider, to NameCheap.

A couple of years ago I moved all of my Domain registrations – a couple dozen – to NameCheap because of their policies. GoDaddy, my former Domain registrar, actually censored some Conservative Blogs and disabled the DNS. There was a big migration away from GoDaddy and NameCheap held a Move Your Registrar day. I have been with them ever since.

A lot of things we write here are considered controversial by the liberals. Like the Constitution, LEGAL immigration, not ILLEGAL. So it made sense to protect my domains by moving to a registrar that wouldn’t try to censor the Conservative message we spread at Va Right!

So when NameCheap started selling dedicated servers, I was considering moving to them as my hosting provider. And today, I did a bit of a comparison.

My current server is a dual core, the new server is a quad core.

My current server runs at 2.3 GHz and the new server runs at 3.4 GHz.

Old server 500 GB drive, new server 1 TB.

Old server 10 TB Bandwidth, new 100 TB.

And the price for the new server is 30% less per month. For hopefully almost twice the speed. The extra memory, 2 additional cores and higher frequency should make a noticeable difference.

So tonight at Midnight NameCheap will migrate all of my stuff to the new server. I hope it goes smooth, but if you see some outages tomorrow, please be patient. Gearing up for the 2016 Presidential Election!

Former Actor, Dirt Highway Explorer, Professional Victim And Racist George Takai!!

The Noisy Room : My nomination this week goes to raving moonbat, George Takei, who frankly should have stayed in space, his last frontier. Uber Leftist actor and activist George Takei, known for his role as Hikaru Sulu in “Star Trek,” said that he and his husband are “overjoyed” by the Supreme Court’s legalization of same-sex marriage. But his shocking comments about conservative Justice Clarence Thomas were just over the rainbow on this one:

“He is a clown in blackface sitting on the Supreme Court. He gets me that angry,” Takei said, visibly flustered as he railed against the African American justice. ”For him to say slaves had dignity … I mean, doesn’t he know slaves were chained? That they were whipped on the back?”

Takei shows his idiocy in all its glory here. He was railing against Thomas’ dissent on the gay marriage ruling:

“Human dignity has long been understood in this country to be innate. When the Framers proclaimed in the Declaration of Independence that ‘all men are created equal’ and ‘endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights,’ they referred to a vision of mankind in which all humans are created in the image of God and therefore of inherent worth. That vision is the foundation upon which this Nation was built.
The corollary of that principle is that human dignity cannot be taken away by the government. Slaves did not lose their dignity (any more than they lost their humanity) because the government allowed them to be enslaved. Those held in internment camps did not lose their dignity because the government confined them. And those denied governmental benefits certainly do not lose their dignity because the government denies them those benefits. The government cannot bestow dignity, and it cannot take it away.”

Thomas, who is unarguably a brilliant litigator and a great man, made a compelling dissent on the ruling. It was epic. Takei’s comment were just profoundly biased and stupid. He called Thomas an “embarrassment” who doesn’t deserve to serve on the Supreme Court, citing in a separate op-ed his own experience living in an internment camp as a child. He would have done better to actually study constitutional law and parse his words more judiciously rather than coming unglued in a Liberal frenzy of incoherence and uninformed lunacy. I agree with one young black conservative woman out there who did a video after the Supreme Court ruling in answer to racist Liberals: “It takes a certain kind of racist to decide that black people can’t have their own opinion.” For being an unconstitutional racist and bigot, Takei has earned a Golden Weasel. Damn it, Jim! He’s earned it!!

Puma By Design :One of actor and member of the gay gestapo, George Takei’s pink jackboots ended up in his mouth after missing the throat of Supreme Court Justice, Clarence Thomas, last week when Takei went on a racist rant against Thomas for his dissenting opinion in the Supreme Court ruling on Obergefell v. Hodges legalizing same sex marriage in all fifty states.

GEORGE TAKEI: “He is a clown in blackface sitting on the Supreme Court. He gets me that angry. He doesn’t belong there. And for him to say, slaves have dignity. I mean, doesn’t he know that slaves were in chains? That they were whipped on the back. If he saw the movie 12 Years a Slave, you know, they were raped. And he says they had dignity as slaves or – My parents lost everything that they worked for, in the middle of their lives, in their 30s. His business, my father’s business, our home, our freedom and we’re supposed to call that dignified? Marched out of our homes at gun point. I mean, this man does not belong on the Supreme Court. He is an embarrassment. He is a disgrace to America.”

In fact, Takei’s rant was so reprehensible that CNN’s Communist race baiter, Marc Lamont Hill, criticized Takei for his “black face” rant on CNN and Twitter (see below) while making it clear that Hill was in no way standing up for Thomas considered by Hill and other Blacks on the left to be a sellout to his race and the Progressive plantation.

On Friday Takei walked back his remarks by posting an apology on his Facebook page (excerpt below:

I recently was asked by a reporter about Justice Clarence Thomas’s dissent in the marriage equality cases, in which he wrote words that really got under my skin, by suggesting that the government cannot take away human dignity through slavery, or though internment. In my mind that suggested that this meant he felt the government therefore shouldn’t be held accountable, or should do nothing in the face of gross violations of dignity. When asked by a reporter about the opinion, I was still seething, and I referred to him as a “clown in blackface” to suggest that he had abdicated and abandoned his heritage. This was not intended to be racist, but rather to evoke a history of racism in the theatrical arts. While I continue to vehemently disagree with Justice Thomas, the words I chose, said in the heat of anger, were not carefully considered.

Takei’s apology is nothing more than quintessential dribble typical of Marxist antagonists whose jackboot of bigotry and intolerance ends up in their mouths instead of on the neck of their targets.

CongressWeasel Alan Grayson!!

The Independent Sentinel : With so many weasels to choose from, Alan Grayson came up as my winner. I based that on his July 4th article in Huff Po in which he declared his new leftist Declaration of Independence.

He wants freedom from bigotry, the narrow-minded, the greedy, misinformation, hubris, fake trade et al. He has absolutely no idea what this country is about.

Thanks Alan, but no thanks! Most of us would like freedom from people like you however.


DHS Head And Illegal-Alien-Enabler-In-Chief Jeh Johnson

JoshuaPundit : San Francisco, like several other cities in California and in Blue States everywhere label themselves ‘Sactuary Cities.’ That means that they openly break U.S. law and do not cooperate with ICE or immigration authorities in any way. They will not arrest illegal aliens even if they have deportation orders against them, they will not notify ICE when criminal aliens are released from prison or cooperate in any way. And the Obama regime allows them to do so.

Last week in San Francisco, there was a cold blooded murder of this woman, Kathryn Steinle:

Her murderer, Francisco Sanchez, shot her in the back for no apparent reason. He’s already confessed, and has a long criminal history in America. In fact, he was actually on probation when he committed his latest crime. And here’s the kicker… he’s been deported five times before, but simply came back since we have no borders, and was never turned over to ICE because of San Francisco’s sanctuary city policy.

When reporters asked Jeh Johnson why he wasn’t cracking down on this blatant disregard for federal law, he simply played weasel and dodged the question, simply admitting there’s ‘been some resistance in some communities.’ The real resistance is in Washington DC, where Jeh Johnson and his boss are essentially doing nothing to protect our borders.

And this is just one instance, but it gives the lie to their statements that they’re concentrating on criminals. Currently, according to the DOJ’s own statistics, 17% of the population in our Federal prisons are illegal aliens, an amazing statistic. I have no figures for those in state prisons, but thousands of illegal aliens who have committed serious felonies have simply been released by the Feds.

In fact, over 121 murders have been attributed to illegal aliens released by President Obama and Jeh Johnson – that we know about.

Kathryn Steinle and others like her are simply sacrifices to President Obama’s plan to radically change the American electorate.

A man with any honor whatsoever would simply resign rather than go along with these policies. Instead, Jeh Johnson is content to follow orders and be a Good German. And for that, I think he deserves some special recognition.

Forum: What Does The Fourth Of July Mean To You?

Every week on Monday morning , the Council and our invited guests weigh in at the Watcher’s Forum, short takes on a major issue of the day, the culture, or daily living. This week’s question: What Does The Fourth Of July Mean To You?

(Note…this week’s question was partially inspired by the following video. While it was admittedly almost certainly cherry picked, I don’t think it’s necessarily unrepresentative after years of what passes for politically correct public education)

Don Surber : The Fourth of July means freedom from the government. The independence in Independence Day is the ability to tell the president to go to hell. Sadly, we seem to be losing this.

The Right Planet :The people who boarded leaky ships on a dangerous passage across an unforgiving ocean in hope of a better life in the New World did not embark on their dangerous voyage expecting to find free healthcare, social security, food stamps and subsidized housing upon their arrival. They simply wanted to escape tyranny and pursue their own lives as the say fit—come what may. They preferred to try and eek out an existence in an unknown land, rather than continue to tolerate and live under the oppressive rule of monarchs and tyrants. To them, it was better to sacrifice their blood, sweat and tears in the pursuit of freedom, than to toil under “quiet servitude” to an all-powerful State.

There was no government to speak of when the pilgrims first arrived in the New Land. But, if you listen to people like Barack Obama, et al., you might be left with the impression that before the earth was ever formed, there was government. “You didn’t build that,” sayeth dear leader.

I truly believe if the liberals of today were to write their own “declaration,” they would call it the Declaration of Codependence.

The Independent Sentinel: It’s fireworks, BBQs, Sousa marches, and outdoor grilling. Independence Day is also the day I pray for all those Patriots who came before and to all those who serve today and who make my freedom possible.

How can anyone ever thank people who sacrificed so much for us.

Since the Marxist in the White House began his treasonous assault on our Constitution and our freedoms, it means so much more to me. It’s now a responsibility to fight for the rule of law and for freedom whatever way I can and as long as I can.

Next: l actually prepared a July 4th post, visiting my July 4 yesterdays. Excerpt:

I mourn for the July 4ths of yesterday.

My mother would get us up early on the morning of July 4th. After breakfast, she would dress us in either red and white or blue and white outfits. We each had an American flag pin appended to the lapel of our blouses and shirts. If there were no pins then we carried an American flag. After all, it was July 4th and a grand day to be an American.

Those were marvelous times. Even as children, we acknowledged the U. S. Constitution, our founding fathers and those who served thereby securing us the freedom and liberties to celebrate Independence Day. Young, old, regardless of ethnicity, all recognized and carried the significance of the day with us as we came together with family, friends and neighbors…..

Mark Dice’s video is proof that for many the significance of Independence Day is lost on far too many.

During my travels Saturday, I saw too few American flag lapel pins and flags being carried in hand. The children unless informed by their parents or grandparents are clueless. They believe that Independence Day is about firecrackers and hot dogs only.
Noticeable is the “increased” visibility for the first time since 9/11 of American flags in windows and on porches (in my neighborhood and surrounding areas). This leads me to believe that even in NYC, people sense that something is wrong.

JoshuaPundit : What I’m going to say next may or may not make sense to many people. Take it for what it’s worth to you.

This Fourth coincides with the 17th of Tammuz in the Hebrew calender. It’s a lunar calender, so the dates change every year. Among other things, this is the date that the Babylonians conquered Israel and destroyed the First Temple, as well as the day the Romans breached the walls of Jerusalem and destroyed the Second Temple in 70 CE. It is ordinarily a day of prayer and fasting, which occurred Sunday, the 5th, since fasting is prohibited on the Jewish Sabbath.

It’s also worth noting that the 17th of Tammuz also coincided with July Fourth in 1776.

I personally see in this a message to us. I believe the wall of our liberties and our Constitution have been breached, and I noted the air of uneasiness among many Americans this year on Independence Day…a sort of tired resignation. I think we’re in for some rough times and stormy weather.

1776 was also the start of a period of great turmoil in America, as those committed to liberty fought for it, not only against the British but against many of their fellow countrymen who liked the status quo just fine.

I have noted a lot of what I call ‘rah rah talk’ among many commentators, urging people to man up and ‘fight’ against the usurpation of our liberties..with zero details or practical suggestions. Those details and practical solutions are exactly what’s needed if real political change is to be accomplished and our Republic reaffirmed, and what we should be concentrating on right now.

I emphasize political change, because I still believe such change can still – just barely- be accomplished by lawful means,

If July Fourth means anything, it means channeling the spirit of our ancestors and facing adversity with the same willingness to risk our lives, fortunes and sacred honor. If we do that, we will win.

Advancing arrogance into an art form with a remarkable relentless risque commitment to liberty, egalitarianism, individualism, and laissez-faire values.

America differs qualitatively from all other nations, because of her unique origins, nat’l credo, historical evolution, and distinctive political and religious institutions. Not to mention the only nation to fight a civil war to end slavery.

Great Satan is magically especial because she was a country of immigrants and the first modern democracy.

Loud, proud and rowdy – early America forecast future stuff with a provocative lingo that still fits today. “Don’t Tread On Me!” “Liberty Or Death”, “Live Free Or Die”

Great Satan’s superiority of the American experiment is reflected in the perception among Americans of America’s role in the world. That American foreign policy is based on moral principles is a consistent theme in the American hot diplopolititary gossip – a phenomenon recognized even by those who are skeptic of such an assessment.

This inclination to do right has been virtually unique among the nations of the world – and for this very reason – America has been totally misunderstood. How could a nation so rich, so successful actually, really be so unselfish and so caring?

Unconvincing (and either historically igno – or deceitfully dishonest – either term will do) critics cry Great Satan must have darker motives! America must be seeking imperium – to dominate everyone else, suck up all the oil, to trade and rob blind for America’s selfish purposes.

People from more grasping, less idealistic societies find it nigh impossible to accept that America honestly believes that giving everyone opportunity is the real roadmap for abundance and happiness everywhere – not merely in the magical Great Satan.

Americans honestly believe that securing other people’s freedom is actually like the best guarantee that America can keep her own.

Great Satan does not want to dominate the world. Americans want to live in peace and hope other people will too.

Great Satan will go out into the world, redress errors, stop uncool unacceptable behavior, to first challenge, then annihilate threats to our liberty.

Creative destruction is Great Satan’s middle name. It is her natural function, for she is the one truly revolutionary country in the world for more than 2 centuries.
She does it automatically, and that is precisely why creeps and tyrants hate her guts, and are driven to attack her. An enormous advantage, despots fear her, and oppressed peoples want what she offers: freedom.

Amazingly, some suspect states, illegit leaders and some people have not yet comprehended that America’s primary intention is to preserve and keep our own land and liberty and all it’s prosperity and that America will do anything and go anywhere to make it happen.

Great Satan built the modern world.
And She knows her way around.

Laura Rambeau Lee,Right Reason : Growing up, every Fourth of July our family traveled and celebrated the holiday with a big family reunion which revolved around the Kutztown State Fair in Pennsylvania. The fair showcases Pennsylvania Dutch and Amish tradition, culture, foods, and crafts. My family goes back to the early 1700s and the first of my ancestors who arrived in the colonies fought in the Revolutionary War.

The Fourth of July fills me with wonder at the sacrifices of these early settlers who traveled from Germany to find a new life, not knowing exactly what they would find once they reached these shores. I am filled with pride knowing they were a part of this country’s founding. Their legacy of freedom lives on in me, and in my children and grandchildren.

We have been blessed with three grandchildren, and as I look into their eyes I see my posterity. It is because of them I am resolved to do whatever it takes to assure their future remains secure and that they will be able to live in a free America. To do nothing, to say nothing, to not teach them about their proud heritage and the history of the United States is unacceptable. I am reminded of the words of President Ronald Reagan: “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same.” It is up to us, parents and grandparents, to make sure our children understand our history, the history of humankind, civilization, and how our republic came to be. It begins with education, and this is where we must focus our attention.
