I’m For (But Obviously NOT the Blog) Canova Peterson for Mechanicsville Supervisor!

Last evening I told a friend of mine who might live in the Mechanicsville Magisterial District to vote W. Canova Peterson for supervisor.  So I decided tonight after speaking with other friends that I would place it on the record:  Canova Peterson for Mechanicsville Supervisor.  It is not a blog endorsement.

Why?

I think Glenn Millican is a fine individual and we need more like him in any community.  I agree with him on proffers and on transparency in government.  But I am concerned:  The Friends of Hanover Schools, which is a group wanting to continue the indiscriminate “investment” in education in accordance with the educrats had endorsed Millican for reappointment to the board. Read this portion of their 2014 endorsement:

We have been impressed by Mr. Millican’s thoughtful questions when faced with difficult budget and policy decisions. It is clear that he is focused on the core tenets of school leadership: teaching and learning. Mr. Millican provides valuable insight into the issues affecting our school division. In 2012, he rightly called for the hiring of additional STEM teachers, responding to the pleas of over 250 citizens and their concerns about budget cuts. He has supported a plan to have retiring teachers work part time, which would allow them to be more effective with a lightened workload. This plan would also save taxpayers money and keep experience in the classroom at a time when experienced teachers are more likely to leave.

Not one word about how many administrators we have or their salaries or car allowances (that would be a “difficult budget and policy decision[s]” for me) or trying to pay for more teachers in the classroom – how to do?  And I know how 250 people can be ginned up to support the school budget every year.  I doubt there are REAL budget cuts in the schools budget.  Salaries are too high for administration outside the school system, too.

Millican has also been on the Hanover School Board from 1990 to 2014.  Of course the school board ought to be elected and not reappointed time and time again.  Ought to be term limits – eight years is long enough for the school board.  Not long term “service” in public office.

I hope Peterson will reconsider the proffers issue.  I would feel better if he had some issue statements on his website.  But the choice is Peterson or Millican and I just have too many questions about Millican’s priorities.  So I encourage those in Mechanicsville to support W. Canova Peterson next Tuesday.

The Council Has Spoken! Our Watcher’s Council Results

The Council has spoken, the votes have been cast, and the results are in for this week’s Watcher’s Council match up.

” I am a Jew. Hath not a Jew eyes? Hath not a Jew hands, organs, dimensions, senses, affections, passions? Fed with the same food, hurt with the same weapons, subject to the same diseases, healed by the same means,
warmed and cooled by the same winter and summer, as a Christian is?

If you prick us, do we not bleed?” – Shylock in Shakespeare’s ‘The Merchant of Venice‘ Act 3 Scene 1

“The attempt to force human beings to despise themselves is what I call hell.” – Andre’ Malraux

“There is no difference whatever between anti-Semitism and the denial of Israel’s statehood. Classical anti-Semitism denies the equal right of Jews as citizens within society. Anti-Zionism denies the equal rights of the Jewish people its lawful sovereignty within the community of nations. The common principle in the two cases is discrimination.” – Abba Eban, 1975

This week’s winning essay, Joshuapundit’s Why So Many Jews Support The Left – And Why They’re So Anti- Israel is my response to a question I get asked frequently that may, perhaps, shed some light on the subject. Here’s a slice:

A good friend of mine forwarded me some questions from someone she knows whom is absolutely baffled.

He’s certainly no anti-semite. But in his contacts with Jews, he finds that many of them while quite intelligent engage in behavior he finds both irrational and inexplicable. Here’s what he basically had to say:

“What baffles me is everyone of them put Obama in office during his first election, and couldn’t understand my disdain for the man. These are intelligent people. Lawyers, investment bankers, stock brokers, etc..They have been voting Democrat for all their lives. …

These people are so unfriendly to all things Israel I just don’t understand it. It’s as if they are trying to destroy the country of their origin, or a death wish, I don’t know. They all hated Bush and he loves Israel. I’m confused, because the trouble I see in Israel right now is partly due to them. I feel bad because I so admire Israel and I know if they fall we will be next or at least deep in the fight. Please, enlighten me.”

I only get asked this once a week or so…but I thought I’d share my answer to him with you.

Hello —

Actually, I have a decent perspective on this, as I’m a Jew, a native Californian (gasp!) and someone whom grew up in a home of liberal FDR Jews who always voted Democrat, except for two occasions which I’ll get to shortly and which shed a bit of light on th ematter at hand.

You’re actually asking a lot of different questions here, which I’m going to try and sort out. Here’s what I think you’re asking, and forgive me if I seem to be putting words in your mouth.

Why are so many Jews lefties when they seem to be so smart? Why do they vote Democrat even if it seems to be against their interests? And why would so many vote for Obama, especially when they’ve seen how anti-Israel he is?

That about cover it?

A lot of it has to do with history. Many lefty Jews today are not only rigorously secular, but disdainful of those Jews whom are religious. That also explains why so many of these overtly secular Jews dislike Evangelicals, Mormons and other religious, pro-Israel Christians. To these Jews, all religion represents not only something they’re trying to get away and distance themselves from, but way down deep, a secret source of shame for many. You don’t destroy a part of whom you are without sustaining some damage.

Read this and see if it clears up the history a bit. The short version is that many Jews, once they were freed from the ghettos by Napoleon that they’d been literally locked up in for centuries made a determined attempt to assimilate. They really wanted to be good Germans, French, Austrians, Poles, what have you. It failed utterly. The majority of Europeans simply wouldn’t allow it.

A number of thse Jews made the obvious connection and allied themselves with the Left, especially the Marxists. They stupidly thought that their religion was the only basis for the psychotic hatred they faced, and that religion itself was the reason they were treated the way they were. So they not only gave up all semblance of their own religion, but turned to an ideology that likewise despised all religion while it was essentially creating its own.

To expand that a bit, here in America while there was never legal, government sponsored Jew hatred as there was in Europe and Muslim countries, there was quite a bit of de facto anti-semitism during the period when Jews were heavily migrating to America…say, the 1880’s to about the 1920’s or so and well into WWII.

http://i1.wp.com/www.blue-route.org/blog/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Ford.jpg?resize=400%2C329

So just as in Europe, some of these immigrants and quite a few of their offspring born here dropped the Orthodox Judaism they were raised with and much of their religious practices because the emphasis then was on assimilating..being, you know, real Americans like everyone else. That didn’t work so well with many of the Republicans of that time or a lot of other people, but the Left was a somewhat different story, especially once FDR came on the scene. Ironic, of course, since he was instrumental in instituting quotas to stop too many Jews entering the Ivy League.

As for the communists, they were more than willing to recruit what Lenin aptly referred to as useful idiots.Conservative author David Horowitz, whom grew up as a ‘red diaper baby’ in a home where both parents were communists and under what was referred to as Party Discipline give us an illuminating look at how this worked in his autobiography ‘Radical Son.’

What changed things when it comes to the issue you’re talking about was the Holocaust and the recreation of Israel. Realizing that much of the world either participated at worst or at best ignored what amounted to a war against defenseless Jews simply because they were Jews was a traumatic event that changed everything for Jews in places like America whom escaped.

It was a unique event in history for reasons I’m happy to explain to you any time if you’d like me to. In many quarters, it made openly expressed Jew hatred socially unacceptable, at least for a while. And it shamed the world into finally keeping the agreements made after WW I in the original League of Nations Palestine Mandate and the subsequent 1923 San Remo Agreement to create a Jewish State in their ancient homeland on the remaining 21% of the Palestine Mandate that was left.

So for even aggressively secular, left leaning Jews like my parents, Israel was the issue that crossed all lines. It did so because they were the generation that was closest to the Shoah and they realized how important Israel’s creation was to Jews in the Diaspora and their comfortable lives there. And yes, there was also some residual guilt involved, because many of the Jews surrounding President Roosevelt took an active part in successfully combating Jews who wanted the make the ongoing Shoah a major public issue and push FDR to make attempts to stop or at least slow down the carnage of Jews in Europe.

That Jewish identification with Israel especially became apparent after the miraculous Six Day War when Jews around the world suddenly realized they might have lost Israel and had to experience a second Holocaust while the world watched and did nothing.

I mentioned that there were two times my devoutly Democrat parents didn’t pull the lever for Democrats? One occasion was in 1972 when the Angry Left took over the party and the anti-Israel George McGovern was their candidate for president. The other time was in 1980, when Jimmie Carter ran for re-election.

My parents literally hated Nixon and Reagan and they weren’t too pleased with yours truly either when I cast my very first vote ever for Ronaldus Maximus. But they simply weren’t going to vote for anti-Israel candidates. So they just voted for a straight Democrat ticket otherwise and passed up voting for president in those elections.

So what changed that closeness to Israel? Well, three things – the birth and maturity of two generations much further removed from the Holocaust, the ascendancy of a center right government in Israel when the Labor party was literally tossed out of office after the Yom Kippur War fiasco and most of all, the continued movement of the Democrat Party to the far left.

Much more at the link.

The Independent Sentinel : How do you beat Hillary -lied her butt off Thursday and did it so well!

Indeed, how could you beat Mrs. Clinton’s performance last week? It does indeed take a special kind of human being to knowingly lie to the entire country and to the grieving families of four dead Americans literally over their coffins. And all just to cover for Barack Obama and get him re-elected.

A number of Mrs. Clinton’s friends and minions in the media referred to her performance as a ‘triumph’ and a ‘win.’ In actuality, the fact that she’s unlikely to face any cost or punishment for her behavior or her illegal server and destruction of documents that were by law all supposed to be turned over when she left office is a major defeat..for the country. It always is, whenever a nation’s standard of justice, integrity and trust in public officials is compromised.

That includes the partisan Democrats on the Benghazi committee as well as the media. When ranking members of an investigating committee set up by congress contemptuously break House rules and openly leak what was supposed to be closed door testimony to the media in order to undermine it, there’s not much more to be said.

Well Mrs. Clinton, enjoy your Weasel. I had the names of Chris Stevens, Sean Smith, Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty engraved on it. Since, as you say, you already live with this every day and lose sleep over it, what difference does it make at this point?

Winchester Commonwealth’s Attorney Abrams Says FOIA Does Not Apply to Campaign Work During Business Hours

We have a very interesting race going on in Winchester. It seems the acting Commonwealth Attorney claims that work done at the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office on his campaign by office workers during the working day is not subject to FOIA requests.

A better question is why are the employees of the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office working on a campaign when they are supposed to be at work for the people?

The letter below is a response to Marc Abrams refusal to hand over the documents requested in the FOIA.

You just can’t make this stuff up! It’s definitely time to look at strengthening Virginia’s FOIA laws.

Mr. Marc Abrams

Acting Commonwealth’s Attorney and Custodian of Records

Office of the Winchester Commonwealth’s Attorney

24 Rouss Avenue, Suite 200

Winchester, VA 22601

Re:       Followup to Your September 29, 2015 Freedom of Information Act Response

Dear Mr. Abrams:

We received your response to our second Virginia Freedom of Information Act (“FOIA”) request on behalf of Darryl Major, a citizen of the Commonwealth of Virginia. You will recall that on September 23, 2015, inter alia, we asked for records in your office relating to time spent by your staff on your candidacy for election as Commonwealth’s Attorney including a certain appeal to the 10th District Republican Committee relating to your campaign.

In your response of September 29, 2015, you declined to provide many of the records requested, stating that “Any discussion pertaining to political matters would not constitute a public record” and thus is not “required to be disclosed pursuant to the Virginia Freedom of Information Act.” We make the following follow-up requests on Mr. Major’s behalf.

From your refusal to provide the requested records, it appears that you are taking the position that even if your staff had spent substantial time during working hours on your political campaign, you would not be required to disclose records confirming that work because they are not “public records” within the definition of the Virginia FOIA. Based on this same rationale, you also refuse to disclose campaign emails sent from private accounts during work hours to advance your political campaign. And, you also refuse to disclose certain “personal pictures of Marc Abrams” stored on office computers, which were attached to two emails, both dated July 14, 2015, which emails were provided in response to our initial request, also dated July 14, 2015.   (We certainly cannot understand why you originally believed that the two emails you provided was responsive to our request, but then took the position that the three photographs attached to those emails were personal, and not responsive to our request.)

2

However, we know that several, if not all, of the employees of the Commonwealth Attorney’s office for whom you are responsible, have been involved in your campaign.

  • Several of the employees of the Commonwealth Attorney’s attended the over three-hour civil hearing in Winchester Circuit Court on July 17, 2015, in which some members of the Winchester Republican Committee unsuccessfully attempted to stop the primary which was held on July 18. And, it must be remembered that this was a hearing in which none of these employees had any official role — attending only to observe a case apparently brought by your political allies.
  • In addition, several of the employees of the Commonwealth Attorney’s office attended two of your public campaign events — one where you announced the launching of your campaign for the Republican nomination (on June 17, 2015), and when that proved unsuccessful, a later one where you announced the launching of your campaign as an independent candidate (on July 31, 2015).[1]

This conduct occurred during work hours when your office staff was being paid with taxpayer funds to do the public’s business. Although you provided no actual records relating to employee leave, you created a summary sheet purporting to evidence leave taken by your staff members on two days only: for you and two staff members on the date of the July 17 hearing in Winchester Circuit Court involving the Republican nomination, and for you and nine staff members on the date of your July 31 campaign event. Of course, from this summary sheet, it cannot be determined whether leave was requested at the time, or if it was requested only after your office received Mr. Major’s request for records.

In view of the foregoing, we have two requests.

First, regardless of your view of the statutory requirements for compelled disclosure of records, the people of Winchester have a right to know whether you have been faithful to your responsibility as Acting Commonwealth’s Attorney to prevent your staff from spending office time on your campaign, misusing tax dollars for that purpose. Therefore, we would again ask that you disclose the actual payroll records reflecting the taking of leave by your employees on the dates previously requested, rather than summary sheets, as well as all other instances where your employees have been involved with your campaign, revealing whether they were on leave or on official time.

Second, section 18.2-112.1(b) of the Code of Virginia provides:

3

Any full-time officer, agent, or employee … of any City … who, without lawful authorization, uses or permits the use of public assets for private or personal purposes unrelated the duties and office of the accused or any other legitimate government interest when the value of such use exceeds $1,000 in any 12-month period, is guilty of a Class 4 felony.

Accordingly, based on the incidents cited above, and your refusal to provide the actual payroll records, and your refusal to provide other emails and photographs and other records developed by or emailed by your staff, we would respectfully request that you forthwith either refer this matter to another Commonwealth’s Attorney for investigation, or apply to the Court for the appointment of a Special Prosecutor, or refer the matter to the “Bureau of Criminal

Investigation of the Department of State Police.” See Virginia Code § 19.2-155 and § 52-8.1.

Unbelievable. Amazing. Over $800,000 to be Spent in the Del. Mason/Overy Race! (If you Vote for Overy – Or Del. Yancey – Don’t Forget to Vote Mark Matney for Senate!)

I heard this from a source and then confirmed it here at the Daily Press:

93rd House of Delegates District

Del. Monty Mason, D-Williamsburg: $367,187

Lara Overy, R: $463,235

It’s amazing.  Unbelievable.  Makes a guy like me want to reconsider Citizens United!  And the reason why (I read the book!) is that this seat is now targeted by the GOP.  That means someone sees something that means Overy can win.  The Daily Press says this:

If House Republicans are putting their money where their mouths are, they’re expecting to speak loudly in the 93rd District House of Delegates race, where they’ve poured big sums into Lara Overy’s bid to unseat Del. Monty Mason, D-Williamsburg.

In the last round of campaign finance reports before Election Day, Overy reported the biggest sum received by any House candidate for the first three weeks of October: $463,235. Mason raised $367,187. The bulk of both candidates’ funds came from party groups.

“It’s fair to say we don’t invest big in races where we don’t see momentum,” said Del. Greg Habeeb, R-Salem, who directs the House Republican caucus’ campaign efforts.

And the Del. Yancey/Simonds race also has attracted money from the parties.  (There might be more for TV ads!)  This means competitive races.  So help Lara Overy and Del. David Yancey!

94th House of Delegates District

Shelly Simonds, D: $155,572

Del. David Yancey, R-Newport News: $72,299

***

Instead, both candidates’ reports show their major emphasis is on a different kind of outreach. Yancey received $36,364 from the state Republican Party for mailers, and Simonds received $37,663 from the state Democratic Party for them.

This kind of spending (not even considering the outside money from Bloomberg and I am sure others) has a tendency to discourage candidates from running and thus another reason for uncontested races.

BUT my point in writing this is:  If you are voting for Del. Yancey or Lara Overy and you see this name on the ballot:

Mark Matney

Vote for him, too.  I told Mark yesterday when I heard about this spending blitz – wouldn’t you like even a corner of the Overy mailings!  Mark will have or has had two mailings and a huge lit drop this weekend.  This Overy spending (and the Yancey money too) increases the chance Matney will win.  We’ll watch these races next Tuesday.

Caroline County Endorsements: Trying to Build a Better Caroline County

Caroline County Politics is complicated. The Republican Party in Caroline County is controlled by a single family. As I look at the ballots in the county, almost every conservative is running as an Independent. Why do they run as independents? Because Jeff Sili and his family rule the Caroline County Republican Party with a self-interested Iron-Fist. There is no Republican Party in Caroline County. There’s only Jeff Sili, who is currently running for re-election for County Supervisor in the Bowling Green District and his friends. Every other conservative in the county that has refused to kiss the ring has been run off or kicked out of the party. Hence all the good, conservative folks running as Independents. As I’ve reached out to local officials and candidates to request information as voter, I was astonished to discover that no one on the ballot in my district was running as a Republican. Something is very, very wrong in Caroline County.

I am aware that there is not much of an online social media presence in Caroline County, there is no Republican Party outreach, no mailers, no pamphlets, and no grassroots. Apparently the Republican Party in Caroline County is busy with other things. I also know that the majority of our readers here at Virginia Right live in Henrico, Hanover, Spotsylvania and King George. Surely some of you must know some disenfranchised, unrepresented, marginalized, principled conservatives in Caroline County that you can reach out to. Reach out to them and share these endorsements.

The Bowling Green District for County Board of Supervisors:

Jeff Sili, one of only two residents of Caroline County allowed to run as Republican, and ruler of the Republican Party in Caroline County, is running for reelection against Wayne Brooks. Jeff Sili, the Eric Cantor of Caroline County, has banished all those who wish to have a say in the local Republican Party and who do not agree with him, from the table of discussion. When Congressman Rob Wittman came to Caroline County to meet with the Board of Supervisors, Jeff Sili could not be bothered to show up. Congressman Wittman, with whom I’ve had many disagreements, but who has been an outstanding Congressman over the last year, deserves to at least be graced with the presence of the prince of Caroline County.

Sadly, Jeff Sili isn’t representing the Bowling Green district on the Board of Supervisors, nor is he representing Republicans in Caroline County’s Republican Party. He’s representing himself and himself alone.

That’s why I endorse Wayne Brooks for County Supervisor in the Bowling Green District. Wayne is a great friend to the community, a stanch supporter of commerce and tourism in Caroline County, and committed to reducing our county debt without raising taxes. Wayne Brooks also understands the profound importance of Fort A.P Hill in Caroline County, and is looking for innovative ways to create a more profitable relationship between the County at large and Fort AP Hill.

It should also be noted that the only way for Caroline County to boast of a Republican Party that would be respected by her peers in neighboring counties, is to remove Jeff Sili as Supervisor and as Emperor of the Caroline County Republican Party.

The Madison District for County Board of Supervisors:

I am proud to endorse Wayne Acors for Supervisor. Wayne Acors is my Supervisor and he has done an amazing job turning Ladysmith, Virginia into a marvelous up-scale residential area. While Wayne Acors has been wildly successful at brining residential development to the West-End of Caroline County (the most beautiful end of Caroline County), he’s no longer looking to expand residential development. One of Wayne Acors’ best qualities has been his ability to form a realistic vision for the future of the county. Uncontrolled rapid development. while good for developers, isn’t what Wayne is after. Wayne will oppose future residential sub-division housing, as current developments retain enough free lots to accommodate future residents. Wayne Acors is open to the construction of some kind of retirement village, however, so that elderly residents of Caroline County won’t have to leave their friends and families in the county for more urban and more overly-developed areas at a great distance from their relative here.

Wayne Acors is being challenged in this election. Clay Forehand is a longtime safety professional with a great vision for the county. He has run a great campaign and should be considered a respected up and comer in our community. However, in the Madison District, we are currently reaping the benefits of years of thoughtful and strategic planing secured for us by Wayne Acors. We need to let Wayne finish the job. Wayne isn’t going to be here forever and he is most certainly not trying to hang on longer than he should. He’s looking for just one more term to finish the incredible work he’s done over the last two decades. I have no doubt that Clay Forehand is a good candidate and a great member of our community, but the fact is that he’s only been in the County for four years and he has not been involved in the fruit our region of the county is currently enjoying.

I am grateful that I live in the Madison District, with two outstanding candidates running to represent me, but let Wayne Acors finish the job he started. He’s done immense and wonderful things for the Madison District and we need to see these current projects through to the end. Wayne Acors is the man to see us across the finish line.

The Caroline County Sheriffs Race:

I moved to Caroline County for a reason. It’s an outstanding place to live. It’s safe, rural, clean, friendly, and growing. Nothing pleases me more than the fact that we have three honorable men running for Sheriff in Caroline County, all running honorable and respectable campaigns. I’m so used to the mean-spirited, cutthroat narratives of Washington and Richmond politics that its refreshing to witness a race between acting Sheriff Tony Lippa, Chris Wooldirdge, and Charles Garnett. Sheriff Tony Lippa has done a great job as Sheriff and I endorse him for re-election. Sheriff Lippa is accessible and accountable and active in the community. I love loving in Caroline County and I feel safe and secure.

Chris Wooldridge isn’t a bad challenger. He’s young, with fresh ideas and a great vision for the county. I have no doubt that he’d make an excellent Sheriff. I just don’t think this year was the right time to run. Sheriff Tony Lippa is wildly popular in the county, well-respected, and there is very little to complain about. I just can’t see changing direction when there is no reason for a change. That doesn’t mean that Chris Wooldridge wouldn’t make a great Sheriff or that he shouldn’t run again in the future. In fact, when Tony Lippa is ready to hang up his spurs, I’ll be delighted to support Chris for Sheriff. I just don’t see any reason to abandon a good thing for another good thing.

I hope that Caroline County will reelect Sheriff Tony Lippa and I hope that Chris Wooldridge stays in our community and considers running again in the future.

Mostly, I’m hoping for a strong Republican Party in Caroline County. The days of single families ruling over a county are gone. Caroline County is one of the last holdouts, but it is ready for a change. I look forward to a day when conservatives in Caroline County can run as the Republicans they are! Please, reach out to your friends and family in my county and let them know that we are ready unleash our potential. For Board of Supervisors, VOTE Wayne ACORS and Wayne BROOKS, and Sheriff Tony Lippa for Sheriff!

An Open Letter To Members of the House Freedom Caucus

AN OPEN LETTER TO MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE FREEDOM CAUCUS

FROM SUPPORTERS OF CONGRESSMAN DAVE BRAT

Paul Ryan

Just Another Eric Cantor/John Boehner?

Why a move to elect Paul Ryan Speaker of the House is a slap in the face of the Freedom Caucus’ constituents

June 10, 2014 was the day a shot was heard ‘round the political world. That day saw the take down of the pre-ordained Speaker of the House, and eventual presidential hopeful, Eric Cantor.

Still to this day, Eric Cantor proclaims that his loss was a fluke, the result of an outlandish (23,000+ theoretically impossible and indefensible) number of Democrats voting for a cartoonishly-portrayed, liberal college professor. If you accept this delusional premise, desperately pedaled by the Cantor team (BTW, the then, most powerful GOP force in Virginia), how does one explain the unparalleled sequence of “fluke” occurrences that bring us to the present?

The man who reluctantly and surprisingly played the role of spoiler is our freshman congressman, Dave Brat. Since being nominated in the 2014 primary, Dave Brat has consistently and admirably represented the grassroots and all constituents of the 7th District of Virginia.

The newly released political thriller, How to Bag a RINO details how a disparate group of average citizens, long dismissed by the party elites, took up the torches of liberty and idealism to wage war on a very unlevel, if not mountainous, playing field, and how we refused to accept disingenuous offers of compromise and negotiation with self-anointed lords of power and patronage. The will of the people in the VA 7th was clearly and unambiguously revealed on June 10, 2014. Even a blind man can see that the state we presently find ourselves in was foretold nearly a year and a half ago.

Read How to Bag a RINO and you will realize how Mr. Cantor’s unforeseen fall from grace portended the pathway that has brought us:  the inevitable resignation of John Boehner the hand-picked, Establishment replacement, Speaker of the House candidate, Kevin McCarthy, and then his subsequent, shocking withdrawal and now, the forced, ill-conceived, last minute, scramble to salvage the stranglehold of power with none other than, Eric Cantor’s fellow Young Gun, Paul Ryan.

If you want to stick your head in the sand and witness the continued decline of the American Experiment, then cast your vote for Paul Ryan and the crony capitalists of the GOP Establishment and be done with us, “we the people”. If you discount our claims, how do you explain the, in-your-face, announcement that a US Chamber of Commerce lobbyist will become Ryan’s Chief of Staff upon assuming the Speakership? And just as Eric Cantor pretentiously planned an elaborate and lavish victory celebration for the expected coronation, Paul Ryan finds himself doing the same.

If on the other hand, you acknowledge the shift in the angry, disaffected GOP electorate to party outsiders, as evidenced by the unprecedented support of Donald Trump and Ben Carson, then support the only candidate for Speaker to sign off on Dave Brat’s 10 commitments, Daniel Webster.

Dave Brat has been the voice for regular order by which the House engages in the work of the people, not the will of the elites, the lords of big government, big business, and crony, corrupt capitalism. Congressman Brat’s 10 Commitments are reflective of Virginia’s Republican Creed. Five items address policy concerns and five more pertain to process of performing the work of the House.

Policy

  1. Facilitate a budget that balances within 10 years and seek to enforce it through the authorizing and appropriations process.
  2. Encourage committees to advance market-driven health care reforms to replace Obamacare.
  3. Support policies that secure the border and enable interior enforcement while opposing amnesty for illegal immigrants.
  4. Urge all committees to advance agendas based on limited government, economic opportunity, and fiscal responsibility.
  5. Enforce the rule of law and separation of powers against executive (presidential) overreach.

Process

  1. Seek reforms of the Republican Conference Rules so leadership committees better represent the American people.
  2. Adhere to the majority-of-the-majority principle for bringing legislation to the floor.
  3. Support changes to the budget process to promote fiscal responsibility, particularly regarding mandatory programs (70% of current spending).
  4. Empower committee members to choose chairs and craft reform legislation without fear of retaliation.
  5. Broaden opportunities to offer amendments and legislation on the House floor with full debate.

Ben Carson and Donald Trump can only be explained by the national movement mirrored and forecasted by what occurred on June 10, 2014 when the future Speaker of the House, Eric Cantor was not just toppled, but humiliated and ridiculed by an 11 point margin, never before seen in American political circles for a sitting House Majority Leader.

We respectfully implore you to refuse to cast your vote for Paul Ryan, as he continues to refuse to sign off on the Brat Commitments.

Consider the will of the people you were elected to represent and vote for the integrity of the process. Vote Daniel Webster.

The Freedom Caucus is the last line of defense in the fight for liberty and justice for all Americans. The Freedom Caucus owes its very existence, in no small part, to the voters of the 7th District of Virginia and to our representative, Dave Brat. The Freedom Caucus will set the stage for its eventual dissolution and become just another bump in the road toward the oligarchy we are becoming if you vote for Paul Ryan.

The betrayal will be irreversible.

An alternative path to pursue, should the inevitable crowning of Paul Ryan occur, it is imperative, for the protection of your incumbency, that each and every member of the Freedom Caucus perform your due diligence and personally hold Mr. Ryan accountable for any and all actions he may take as Speaker of the House.

The grassroots across the nation, not just the VA 7th, are absolutely fed up with the continued deception, misdirection, and outright lies fed to us as pabulum. To move beyond this point and have any hope of future strength and leadership in the name of “we the people” thrive, you must demand and obtain written assurances from Mr. Ryan that what he agreed to, in private with the Freedom Caucus last week, he will abide by in the future.

It is not sufficient to dismiss the grassroots as inconsequential observers to the shenanigans of a select contingent of powerbrokers. It is no longer acceptable nor is it even fathomable that we will be placated with assurances and even heartfelt promises of accountability. The Leadership has proven time and again there is not even a semblance of accountability remaining in Washington. Any accountability that may exist is to interests beyond the reach of the voter.

Our belief is that once the Ryan Speakership commences, the aim of the establishment leadership regime will continue unabated, to further marginalize and eventually dissolve the Freedom Caucus from further existence. Once that occurs, any remaining vestiges of hope for the reinstatement of regular order disappears.

Our bottom line is that the Eric Cantor Young Gun aristocracy cannot EVER be trusted with simple verbal assurances. Evidence their continued secretive support for amnesty for illegal aliens. Even a written contract holds little weight in an era where the rule of law is no longer an accepted paradigm.

Do what you must, but “we the people” will forever remember the words of Dr. Benjamin Franklin, when asked by Mrs. Powel what form of government had the Continental Congress given the people: “a republic, if YOU (emphasis added) can keep it.” We are not going away. We are not giving up. We are going to hold YOU accountable for YOUR vote. We will do what we must to keep the republic.

Respectfully submitted and mutually pledged:
