I (not the blog) ENDORSE Eddie Whitlock for Henrico GOP Chair!

I am proud to have gotten to know Eddie Whitlock, first he is an attorney for the business I work for.  Second, I got to know him better in the state senate primary and I liked two aspects of his campaign:  He sought to run a positive and inspiring campaign and second, the Whitlock Test:

As your next senator, I will oppose any spending that does not pass The Whitlock Test: First, is the spending for a core function of government? If it is not, I will oppose it. Second, does the program provide a service that is unavailable from the private sector for less money or impractical for the private sector to provide? If the private sector should be doing it, I will oppose the spending. Third, is the spending at the lowest level needed? If not, I will oppose it.

(From this article at the R T-D)

I love the Whitlock Test; I told Eddie I’d steal it if I ran for delegate or whatever.  It’s great.

I know some will say why are you in Hanover involving yourself in a Henrico race?  I do not have to endorse in every race (I support UKIP in the UK and I am not even remotely British!) but I offered to help Eddie and help him I will.  I think he is best for the Henrico GOP.  Henrico needs to become less blue and more red.  Whitlock might be the best face for the GOP to win others to become Republicans.  His personality is favorable for that.

Eddie also has this:  The Whitlock Plan.

The Whitlock Plan-1

I have giving it similar to a light skim and it seems ambitious.  If Whitlock can accomplish even some of this Plan, he’ll be a successful chair.  Therefore I support him.  Let’s hope I am not the kiss of death.  I know this will light up the blog but I have always kept my own counsel and I beta to my own drum.  Consider Eddie Whitlock Tuesday night.

King William Re-Education Camps ?

                                             King William Re-Education Camps ?

By Bob Shannon Central Garage

The nostalgic longing for the good ol days, when …..” elected officials primary concern was the interest of all citizens” should have warned what was to come.   Would “all citizens” include the folks who for years wanted spending restrained and taxes cut ? Citizens made their voices heard in November. Are conservatives a separate class, should they keep their opinions to themselves ? Is the writer advocating that conservatives be sent off to re-education camp so we fall in line ?

Readers following this have to ask one simple question. Did the KW TEA Party place enforcers at polling stations last Nov. 3rd and strong arm voters to pull the lever for a new Supervisor ? Or is it possible …….voters independent and of their own accord concluded the KW TEA Party might have some valid points ? The writer uses the phrase “ urged on by outside influence”……..just whom does the writer mean by that ? Was King William invaded by pillaging Vikings ?

Are citizens of King William who apparently voted for new leadership part of that outside influence ? If anyone has created an environment of hysteria and animosity it is the folks who engineered the “ phony crisis” this writer furthers with once again repeating the grand lie that $5 million in budget cuts to the schools were ever even mentioned , discussed or considered. It takes some hubris to insinuate that others are using misinformation — after spreading that lie. Take away the feeding trough from the public sector and prepare for this type of discourse.

We now have F.O.I.A requests made for e-mails between private citizens and their elected representatives on the B.O.S ? Did anyone from the TEA Party ever ask for e-mails between former Supervisor’s Stone, Redd or Williams and private citizen’s ? No we did not, and we won’t idly sit by while the new Nazi’s in the County attempt to deny us the same right to communicate with these elected officials who at least are willing to listen to our concerns and ideas. Did these former Supervisors communicate with members of the Farm Bureau, the Ruritan’s, and other citizens in the County who expressed their opinion ? If you are a citizen who has another perspective is the writer suggesting we be denied the same rights ? The KWTP has informed and educated broader swaths of citizens allowing them a better understanding of how local government really works.

The writer has discovered ………a “budget process”, one that I personally have been a fixture at for the last 6 years. Odd, I don’t recall in all 35 or so of those meetings ever seeing the writer there. Often in the all day meetings I sat alone doing just what the writer suggests, learning as much as possible about the county budget, where the money was being spent and offering specific proposals on how expenditures could be reduced. The former elected official’s , predisposed to spend other people’s hard earned money had little regard for what we might think, or what objections we may have. The writer concludes with the sentence, “when will we rally and say ENOUGH ? . Readers will recall one of Candidate Hansen’s signs that asked that same straightforward question “HAD ENOUGH YET ?. Voters answered the question . Whether he won with 38% of the vote or 98% of the vote he won, and that is the system we have. Perhaps the writer just doesn’t like the outcome.

Sports Hall of Fame Killed in Senate Finance – 15-0!

I was not there but the news is great:

SB 28 Virginia Sports Hall of Fame; created, report.

02/11/16  Senate: Passed by indefinitely in Finance (15-Y 0-N)

YEAS–Norment, Hanger, Howell, Saslaw, Lucas, Newman, Ruff, Wagner, McDougle, Vogel, Carrico, Alexander, Obenshain, Barker, Dunnavant–15.

NAYS–0.

ABSTENTIONS–0.

This is a great victory over the continuing attempt to subsidize private events and organizations with taxpayer dollars.  But these ideas will continue – until it is clear the people will not stand for it.

I again thank Senator McDougle for his leadership on this.  Let’s thank him and the others, too.

As Ryan Mimics Boehner: Remember… We Told You So.

Representative Paul Ryan, Republican vice presidential candidate, speaks during a Bloomberg Television interview in Clinton, Iowa, U.S., on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012. Ryan discussed presidential candidate Mitt Romney's tax plan, fiscal policy and the outlook for his debate with Vice President Joe Biden. Photographer: Daniel Acker/Bloomberg via Getty Images

They say that a day in politics is like a year. Often times, we forget what happened yesterday. Mired in the confusion and captured by the kerfluffles of the moment,  we treat each instance in politics as if it existed in a vacuum, oblivious to the long logical chain of events which led to the moment by moment political posturing and positioning with which we are forced, daily, to digest. So, as we watch Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan, play legislative games with regard to tens of thousands of Syrian Refugees, I’d like to take a moment to say, “We Told You So”. I would also like to thank Congressman Dave Brat for his courageous and principled vote against Ryan as Speaker. Like so many of us, Congressman Brat understands the nature of Washington D.C., and isn’t easily fooled by rhetoric or unaccountable promises.

Originally drafted by Ron Hedlund, on behalf of the prescient,  the following is our open letter to the House Freedom Caucus, requesting that they refuse to bend to pressure to vote for Paul Ryan as Speaker of the House. It was published by Zach Werrell, the Bull Elephant, and here at Virginia Right.

AN OPEN LETTER TO MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE FREEDOM CAUCUS

FROM SUPPORTERS OF CONGRESSMAN DAVE BRAT

Paul Ryan

Just Another Eric Cantor/John Boehner?

Why a move to elect Paul Ryan Speaker of the House is a slap in the face of the Freedom Caucus’ constituents

June 10, 2014 was the day a shot was heard ‘round the political world. That day saw the take down of the pre-ordained Speaker of the House, and eventual presidential hopeful, Eric Cantor.

Still to this day, Eric Cantor proclaims that his loss was a fluke, the result of an outlandish (23,000+ theoretically impossible and indefensible) number of Democrats voting for a cartoonishly-portrayed, liberal college professor. If you accept this delusional premise, desperately pedaled by the Cantor team (BTW, the then, most powerful GOP force in Virginia), how does one explain the unparalleled sequence of “fluke” occurrences that bring us to the present?

The man who reluctantly and surprisingly played the role of spoiler is our freshman congressman, Dave Brat. Since being nominated in the 2014 primary, Dave Brat has consistently and admirably represented the grassroots and all constituents of the 7th District of Virginia.

The newly released political thriller, How to Bag a RINO details how a disparate group of average citizens, long dismissed by the party elites, took up the torches of liberty and idealism to wage war on a very unlevel, if not mountainous, playing field, and how we refused to accept disingenuous offers of compromise and negotiation with self-anointed lords of power and patronage. The will of the people in the VA 7th was clearly and unambiguously revealed on June 10, 2014. Even a blind man can see that the state we presently find ourselves in was foretold nearly a year and a half ago.

Read How to Bag a RINO and you will realize how Mr. Cantor’s unforeseen fall from grace portended the pathway that has brought us:  the inevitable resignation of John Boehner the hand-picked, Establishment replacement, Speaker of the House candidate, Kevin McCarthy, and then his subsequent, shocking withdrawal and now, the forced, ill-conceived, last minute, scramble to salvage the stranglehold of power with none other than, Eric Cantor’s fellow Young Gun, Paul Ryan.

If you want to stick your head in the sand and witness the continued decline of the American Experiment, then cast your vote for Paul Ryan and the crony capitalists of the GOP Establishment and be done with us, “we the people”. If you discount our claims, how do you explain the, in-your-face, announcement that a US Chamber of Commerce lobbyist will become Ryan’s Chief of Staff upon assuming the Speakership? And just as Eric Cantor pretentiously planned an elaborate and lavish victory celebration for the expected coronation, Paul Ryan finds himself doing the same.

If on the other hand, you acknowledge the shift in the angry, disaffected GOP electorate to party outsiders, as evidenced by the unprecedented support of Donald Trump and Ben Carson, then support the only candidate for Speaker to sign off on Dave Brat’s 10 commitments, Daniel Webster.

Dave Brat has been the voice for regular order by which the House engages in the work of the people, not the will of the elites, the lords of big government, big business, and crony, corrupt capitalism. Congressman Brat’s 10 Commitments are reflective of Virginia’s Republican Creed. Five items address policy concerns and five more pertain to process of performing the work of the House.

Policy

  1. Facilitate a budget that balances within 10 years and seek to enforce it through the authorizing and appropriations process.
  2. Encourage committees to advance market-driven health care reforms to replace Obamacare.
  3. Support policies that secure the border and enable interior enforcement while opposing amnesty for illegal immigrants.
  4. Urge all committees to advance agendas based on limited government, economic opportunity, and fiscal responsibility.
  5. Enforce the rule of law and separation of powers against executive (presidential) overreach.

Process

  1. Seek reforms of the Republican Conference Rules so leadership committees better represent the American people.
  2. Adhere to the majority-of-the-majority principle for bringing legislation to the floor.
  3. Support changes to the budget process to promote fiscal responsibility, particularly regarding mandatory programs (70% of current spending).
  4. Empower committee members to choose chairs and craft reform legislation without fear of retaliation.
  5. Broaden opportunities to offer amendments and legislation on the House floor with full debate.

Ben Carson and Donald Trump can only be explained by the national movement mirrored and forecasted by what occurred on June 10, 2014 when the future Speaker of the House, Eric Cantor was not just toppled, but humiliated and ridiculed by an 11 point margin, never before seen in American political circles for a sitting House Majority Leader.

We respectfully implore you to refuse to cast your vote for Paul Ryan, as he continues to refuse to sign off on the Brat Commitments.

Consider the will of the people you were elected to represent and vote for the integrity of the process. Vote Daniel Webster.

The Freedom Caucus is the last line of defense in the fight for liberty and justice for all Americans. The Freedom Caucus owes its very existence, in no small part, to the voters of the 7th District of Virginia and to our representative, Dave Brat. The Freedom Caucus will set the stage for its eventual dissolution and become just another bump in the road toward the oligarchy we are becoming if you vote for Paul Ryan.

The betrayal will be irreversible.

An alternative path to pursue, should the inevitable crowning of Paul Ryan occur, it is imperative, for the protection of your incumbency, that each and every member of the Freedom Caucus perform your due diligence and personally hold Mr. Ryan accountable for any and all actions he may take as Speaker of the House.

The grassroots across the nation, not just the VA 7th, are absolutely fed up with the continued deception, misdirection, and outright lies fed to us as pabulum. To move beyond this point and have any hope of future strength and leadership in the name of “we the people” thrive, you must demand and obtain written assurances from Mr. Ryan that what he agreed to, in private with the Freedom Caucus last week, he will abide by in the future.

It is not sufficient to dismiss the grassroots as inconsequential observers to the shenanigans of a select contingent of powerbrokers. It is no longer acceptable nor is it even fathomable that we will be placated with assurances and even heartfelt promises of accountability. The Leadership has proven time and again there is not even a semblance of accountability remaining in Washington. Any accountability that may exist is to interests beyond the reach of the voter.

Our belief is that once the Ryan Speakership commences, the aim of the establishment leadership regime will continue unabated, to further marginalize and eventually dissolve the Freedom Caucus from further existence. Once that occurs, any remaining vestiges of hope for the reinstatement of regular order disappears.

Our bottom line is that the Eric Cantor Young Gun aristocracy cannot EVER be trusted with simple verbal assurances. Evidence their continued secretive support for amnesty for illegal aliens. Even a written contract holds little weight in an era where the rule of law is no longer an accepted paradigm.

Do what you must, but “we the people” will forever remember the words of Dr. Benjamin Franklin, when asked by Mrs. Powel what form of government had the Continental Congress given the people: “a republic, if YOU (emphasis added) can keep it.” We are not going away. We are not giving up. We are going to hold YOU accountable for YOUR vote. We will do what we must to keep the republic.

More Musings and Support for Candidates from Sandy! GET OUT the VOTE for Richard Ottinger, Sturtevant, Dunnavant, etc.

First, Richard Ottinger is my hero for what he said on the John Fredericks Show I think it was Friday.

Asked about the so-called “Gun Show Loophole”, as if he was listening to me in the car telling him what to say, Ottinger, running for state senate against Democrat Lynwood Lewis in the sixth district, said and I paraphrase this based on the radio blurb (here it is):

If you are a dealer – you must do the background check – it’s the law!  But this is an attempt to regulate a private sale of a gun by a non-dealer to a non-dealer.  What about a widow selling her late husband’s guns?  It is tremendous bureaucracy for that private sale.  No evidence that criminals or other illegal sales of guns from gun shows to commit crimes.  A solution in search of a problem!

Ottinger NAILED IT!  The only thing I would have added is that most of these private sales are carefully done – by people who respect the law and I believe most of them would not sell a gun to anyone that they did not feel right about.

Just remember:  Anyone who says I want to close the “Gun Show Loophole” really wants to regulate the PRIVATE SALE OF FIREARMS!  That could also be “Universal Background Checks” – SAME THING!

Ottinger also is against red light cameras (I am too – they are really a revenue raiser and an unfair one since you cannot easily confront or cross-examine a camera!) – I realize they probably do help reduce accidents.  BUT it is simply unfair.  Otinger says it is “big brother government”.

I did a victory lap cheering:  “OTTINGER’S GOTTA WIN!  He’s JUST GOTTA!”  So if you are in the Sixth District – vote and support Ottinger.  (He also said he was for making sure 65% of the education money goes to the classroom.  Excellent.)

Yes I am for Sturtevant – we need to tell Bloomberg NO!

I was not crazy about the bigoted anti-lawyer ads of Dr. Dunnavant.  Still not.  I tried to reach out to her through a mutual friend to get an apology in exchange for an endorsement.  Got nowhere.  But Dr. Dunnavant says she’s a strong conservative.  Let’s give her a chance.  She can always be primaried in 2019.  So get out and support her.

Finally, don’t forget some of the races in NOVA such as Craig Parisot (Dist 34) which could be a close race (Blue Virginia says so) and so get out!  Also Danny Vargas in Dist 86, Choung Nguyen in 87 and Sang Yi in District 37.  Please get out for Del. Bob Marshall, Del. Lingamfelter, Del. LaRock and Senator Black.  A hat tip to Del. Kirkland Cox for these ideas.

Gotta go!  Might have more!
