When it comes to media dishonesty, people are starting to notice

I was heartened when my assiduously apolitical sister spontaneously offered that today’s media is so corrupt and dishonest it can’t be taken seriously.

I was speaking with my sister, the most non-political person in the world. She hates watching the news or reading the paper because she finds politics depressing and boring. Nevertheless, even if you wall yourself off from the news, in today’s world you can’t help hearing stories.

So it was that my sister told me yesterday that she really hates the way Trump exaggerates. I asked her what had ticked her off, and she told me it was the way that Trump lied when he said the new abortion bills popping up in Democrat-run states — with abortion legal up until the minute birth — would allow doctors to execute living babies.

But that’s true, I said, at least according to the Virginia governor.

What?

Yup, he was on a radio show and was asked about a bill coming up in Virginia to allow third trimester abortion.

QUESTION: There was a very contentious committee hearing yesterday when Fairfax County delegate Cathy Tran made her case for lifting restrictions on third trimester abortions as well as other restrictions now in place and she was pressed by a Republican delegate about whether her bill would permit an abortion even as a woman is essentially dilating ready to give birth and she answered that it would permit an abortion at that stage of labor. Do you support her measure and explain her answer.

NORTHAM: You know, I wasn’t there, Julie, and I certainly can’t speak for Delegate Tran, but I would tell you — one, the first thing I would say is this is why decisions such as this should be made by [healthcare] providers, physicians, and the mothers and fathers that are involved. There are — you know when we talk about third-trimester abortions, these are done with the consent of, obviously, the mother, with the consent of the physicians, more than one physician by the way. And it’s done in cases where there may be severe deformities, there may be a fetus that’s non-viable. So in this particular example, if a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen. The infant would be delivered, the infant would be kept comfortable, the infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother. So I think this was really blown out of proportion.

In other words, Northam speaks approvingly of a scenario in which a baby is born alive, and kept alive, only to have the mother and doctor engage in a subsequent conversation about whether the baby so defective it should subsequently be executed. This viewpoint is right out of Sparta.

My sister did not argue with me. Instead, she told me she wasn’t at all surprised. The media in her estimation has become so dishonest that nothing it says is true anymore. No matter the subject, political or not, it should be doubted and probably dismissed.

I didn’t disagree with her, of course. In fact, I think she’s absolutely right. The drive-by media is a branch of the Democrat Party. Even Fox, under the aegis of Murdoch’s college educated sons and their wives (an education that strongly suggests they hew left) is sliding away from objective news reporting and conservative commentary.

Rather than giving us facts, the media gives us non-stop, unadulterated, complete and unmitigated lies, all run through the Leftist filter of the 21st century Democrat Party. Sometimes, the bias is so strong it’s laughable, in a sad, cynical way. For example, today’s New York Times, when it finally addressed the corruption charges that are going to haunt Biden, framed the story, not as one about a corrupt politician’s use of power to sway American policy to enrich his family, but as . . . Republicans pounce: “Biden Faces Conflict of Interest Questions That Are Being Promoted by Trump and Allies.” (No link; you can find it yourself if you want.)

Likewise, there’s The Hill report on the Alabama state rep who opposed an anti-abortion bill by claiming “Some kids are unwanted, so you kill them now or you kill them later. You bring them in the world unwanted, unloved, and you send them to the electric chair. So, you kill them now or you kill them later.” The Hill’s take? “Conservatives seize on Alabama state Dem’s abortion comments.”

Even Pravda was more subtle than today’s media.

I consider it a good thing that my assiduously apolitical sister is waking up to the fact that the media is trying to create George Orwell’s 1984, complete with memory holes, rewritten news, and the party always being right. If she is figuring out what’s going on, a lot of other people should be as well.

(UPDATED) TOWARD A “THEORY OF THE MAN”

Vassar Bushmills

For almost everyone who pops up in the news, I have a general theory of that person, beginning with how they got in the news in the first place.

If WAPO or New York Times said something approvingly about them, my starting point is likely to be a minus -1. Disapprovingly? Plus +1. The media is my built-in bias meter.

But that bias can quickly be corrected if it turns out that what WAPO or NYT said was factually true. It would not change my overall opinion about either of them unless they actually got the facts right several times in a row, which indicate they may have changed their bias on a given subject.

Neither have in over 50 years.

A personal Theory of a Man or Woman is not something you generally publish. It’s an internal mechanism to remind yourself that there are rules of critical thinking, as opposed to giving over to raw emotion. It’s a reminder of who you are, not who an updated Donald Trump or Mitch McConnell is. You’d be surprised at how many so-called conservative writers have never engaged in this simple practice. It should be a regular as morning prayers. Only those under 45 don’t even know it exists. this.

I did a complete-180 on one Theory of a Man I had, in 2013, when hall of fame conservative George Will came down to Virginia on behalf of one of his life-long employers, WAPO, to do a hit piece on Ken Cuccinelli, in his race for governor against the unindicted Clinton skid-greaser, Terry McAuliffe. No fan of the Democrats, mind you, Will put his support behind an empty-suit Libertarian (these are easy to hire in any state election D’s think can be made closer). and indeed Rob Sarvis was the difference maker in that election. This allowed Will to come out of the closet about religion, allowing that Christians, (Cuccinelli is Roman Catholic) are worse even than the Left’s atheism, with which George Will agrees.

My theory about George Will, totally flipped, so I am de-e-elighted to see that just by Donald Trump living and breathing in the White House, George Will rarely draws a “Theory of the Man” consideration by anyone anymore. Irrelevant.

Every person should have a “theory of the man” process embedded in their minds. For one, it’s a shield against raw emotion, and the high degree of probability that our emotions can cause us to say or do something irrational that will cause other people to alter their theory of us[…]

THE ABORTION GULAG AND THE LAW

Vassar Bushmills

From a political fad in 2016, to a trend after the 2018 mid-terms, Infanticide has become a full blown rallying cry for Democrats around blue state America. Our Lady Penguin laid this development bare just a few days ago in her “a murder by any other name is still murder” expose of the new Infanticide law in New York, and the effort by other states, New Mexico, Rhode Island, and Virginia to get on the Execution train even before it’s left the station.

No one can say in  prose what every moral human in America must feel about this outrage better than Lady Penguin. So read it.

I’ll only speak to the speed with this band-wagon effect has developed, meaning that the Left has taken full leave of its moral senses (killing babies) without any forthought about what killing babies really means.

If you want a 3-minute mind-picture of just what killing babies is like, I offer this testimony of a now-reformed New York abortion doctor, Dr Lavatino, who describes a second tri-mester abortion in detail. (I know, it’s not how you had it pictured. “Hey, there’s a real person in there, a real breathing baby”…and a doctor has to take that child out piece-by-piece and stack its parts up like cordwood to make sure they got everything. Probably not even most of the foot-stomping “absolute right to do whatever I want with my body” shriekers know that’s how it’s done, or that some clinics now have on-staff nurses whose sole purpose is to muffle the crying sounds of the victim, just so everyone in the room can walk out guilt-free. How medieval.

It’s not just the lies the abortion industry has to tell its victims just to get them into the surgery, but worse, the extraordinary lengths they will go to disguise to themselves, actually self-hypnotize, the barbarism they are committing, even as they commit it.

I’ll guarantee no young pregnant about-to-abort mother has ever pictured her fully-formed 22-week old baby dying this way…for she wouldn’t be there if she did.

Still this reflects an intentional kind of self-delusion that begins with someone else, somewhere else. People behind the curtain. Both the Nazis and Soviets went to great length to pass “those who were about to die’ through several levels of paper-pushing and hand-stamping so that only a handful of men and women would actually come away with blood on their hands. Everyone else had some level of deniability  and conscience assuaging available to them[…]

Ralph ‘Coonman’ Northam, the Media’s Governor…Really.

Good grief! Did you tune in to Virginia Governor Ralph “Coonman” Northam’s press conference a few moments ago?  The short of it was Northam saying that when informed by his staff of the photographs in the yearbook, he owned up to it, made a video and put out a statement owning up to being the man in the image of two guys, one in Blackface and the other dressed as a Klansmen but…..

And that’s when Northam lost everyone except his Virginia neighbors, i.e., the media.

Northam went on to say that he did not see the photographs until “after” he owned up to the photographs and that, in fact, he never purchased a year book but since Northam was on the subject of blackface, in 1984, he dressed up and colored his face to look like Michael Jackson for, I believe it was, a “Halloween party.”

What was that, you ask? Yeah, Coonman in 1984 colored his face and dressed up like Michael Jackson.  From thereon, the press conference was nauseating harkening me back to when the media would ask Barack Obama snowball questions like, “Boxers or Briefs, President Obama?”

In the end, Northam who made sure that the whole country, even though he said that he was addressing Virginians, knew (a) he was not stepping down from the governorship; and (b) that he had Black friends.  He even offered to do the Moonwalk…the Moonwalk.

Couldn’t resist. Had to throw that in just to bring it all home.  How lucky are those who tuned in to Northam’s press conference that he didn’t go there?

Breitbart News by Nick Nolte

You see, most of the reporters who work in Washington, DC, do not live in Washington, DC; they live in Virginia. This should come as no surprise to anyone who understands the left.

On paper, Washington, DC, should be a haven, a Leftist Utopia. After all, D.C. has been exclusively run by Democrats for decades. In fact, since the creation of the Office of the Mayor of Washington, DC, in the early 1970s, only Democrats have held that office. There are no eeeevil Republicans stopping D.C. Democrats from instituting their utopian policies, and yet…

Northam fooled no one and his constituents, i.e., the media ate it up while doing everything possible to cover their governor’s six.  THEY FAILED but that will not stop them from delivering a wad of fake news when reporting on the press conference who failed to vet this man.

…But where the hell were the media during the Virginia governor’s race?  There are probably over a thousand so-called journalists who reside in Virginia. The far-left Washington Post has an entire section devoted to Virginia. Moreover, not only was Northam running to be the media’s governor, the race itself was a big national story… And no one, not a single member of the media, sought to properly vet Northam, bothered to go back to his college days, bothered to track down a publicly available college yearbook?

Below is a very short clip of Northam’s press conference (which is about as much as anyone can stand):

Northam plans to investigate by use of facial recognition to find out who the men are in the photograph.  How does that work? Using facial recognition to identify a man wearing a KKK outfit?

Unfortunately (or not) for Northam and what he fails to realize is that he is the white man that he and his fellow bureaucrats at war with. This is (a) not his season and (b) the discussion that the Democratic Party wants to have right now or through 2020 on the subjects of race and infanticide.  Therefore, the calls for Northam to resign will continue unabated.

The left’s message to Ralph Coon Northam, “time’s up, dude.”

Message to the Democratic Party, “thank you for Coonman. Let him stay around, at least through 2021.”

One more thing, this aged well…or did it?
